The Te Aka Matua’s Last dress rehearsal before heading of the Gold Coast. They flew out on the Thursday morning to perform in the – Super 12 Kapa Haka Championship. The trip went well for the Group, they came 4th in the Comp, so well done you fella’s.
Te Aka Matua inc is a Maori Cultural Performing Arts Group established April 2008 specialising in haka, poi (ball on end of string) action song and dance, storytelling and of course Maori language.
Our members are of NZ Maori heritage from all over NZ and the majority are recent arrivals to Melbourne.
Our focus is to maintain our culture whilst away from home but also to share with other cultures.
We’ve recently performed at the Wyndham Councils Senior Citizens Multi Cultural Luncheon and the Wyndham Councils Volunteers Dinner and did a story telling at the ‘Best Start’
programme held at the Council.
We’ve initiated the ‘Vibes’ festival for Maori, Pacific & Aboriginal youth held in July and this will be an annual event, performed at the Weerama Festival and are always looking to support community events.
I’ve basically mentioned what we’ve done in our community as we have supported other events in other municipalities.
